The public is cordially invited to a town meeting on “Low Impact Development: Shelter from the Storm,” on Thursday, January 17 at the LIncoln Elementary School Library, 213 21st Avenue S.E. (just off Capitol Way). The major speaker will be engineer/hydrologist Tom Holz, who will discuss and illustrate building design that results in near-zero runoff of stormwater. He will also discuss how low impact development can mitigate flood damage to human communities and natural habitat.

A speaker from Thurston County will address permitting and regulatory issues relating to low impact development.

Q & A will follow the presentation.

The event will be sponsored by Livable Thurston, Futurewise, Thurston Conservation Voters, League of Women Voters, Black Hills Audubon and others.

The Thurston County Democrats is hosting a series of pre-caucus forums and Presidential straw polls throughout the county in mid-January.

Participants at all three events will be able to discuss what should be included in the Thurston County Democrats' platform this year, in addition to voting for their favorite presidential candidate.

Participants will also be able to begin their discussions early at thurstondemocrats.org/blog
