Important Public Meeting this Monday -- Our chance to influence the state's Climate Change policy

We have an important opportunity to make our voices heard on climate change this week.  A group of state agencies are holding two statewide public meetings on Climate Change -- and one of them will be held on Monday right here at the Ecology headquarters in Lacey.  There will no doubt be a vocal contingent of "climate skeptics" present for the meeting, so we need good sensible people to show up and show strong support for state action on climate change.

What:    Public Meeting on the State’s Climate Change Impacts Response Strategy
When:   Monday, November 30th, 2009, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Where:  Main Auditorium - Dept. of Ecology Headquarters, 300 Desmond Drive, Lacey, WA

Background:  This past spring, Gov. Gregoire signed legislation directing state agencies to develop a strategy that would help our state prepare for and adapt to the impacts of climate change.  This public meeting, one of only two that will be held in the state (the other will be in Wenatchee) is an opportunity to learn more about the state's climate response strategy, to ask questions, and provide feedback.

More Information:  More details from the Department of Ecology can be found on their website:  http://www.ecy.wa.gov/climatechange/adaptation.htm.

Feel free to email or call Stew Henderson with any questions:  (360) 339-3069, or hendersox@gmail.com

Thanks for caring about our future!

We had a tremendous showing of people at the Maple Lane/Green Hill forum last night. Over a dozen local Ds showed up and showed support for labor and for keeping needed juvenile facilities and the jobs that go with them! Lets keep it up!

TUESDAY, DECEMBER 8, 2009 at 6:00 P.M. at Providence Hospital

MoveOn.org is organizing nationwide, locally sponsored, health care vigils:

"So on December 8th, we're holding our biggest ever health care day of action, organizing hundreds of "Cost of Delay" vigils across the country to remind Congress that Americans simply can't afford to wait for health care reform". MoveOn.org.

We Lewis County Democrats will be joining other concerned citizens across this nation Tuesday night. We will hold our vigil at Providence Hospital to thank Sisters of Providence for their support of the House Health Care Reform Bill (link: http://www2.providence.org/phs/on-reform/Pages/HouseLegislation.aspx) and to highlight THE NEED FOR REAL REFORM NOW.

The Cost of Delay is too much. For every day of delay, more than 120 Americans will die because they do not have insurance and cannot access needed health care. The Republicans have made delay their chief tactic in this process, and in the Senate this means extended debate and filibusters at every possible point.

We can help make a difference.

YOU can be that difference and YOU can be a part of this historic effort.

By simply coming out on Tuesday night and waving to folks driving by for 30-45 minutes, we will show that Lewis County cares about Health Care Reform.

Please come on out and maybe even bring a friend or family member or two. RSVP to chair@lewiscountydemocrats.net if you can or just come on out {we will have signs, etc.}.

The Directions are here, and you may park in designated off-street parking areas. Along Scheuber Road. We will be gathering on the sidewalk near the Corner of Scheuber Road and Cooks Hill Road - See Map

Thanks for all youre doing!

Health Care for the Holidays:

It’s Time to Make History

Thousands of people across Washington State are expected to rally on December 12th to urge of passage of the historic health care legislation currently being debated in the US Senate.

Saturday, December 12th health insurance reform advocates across Washington will rally at nine separate locations to urge the US Senate to join the House by passing historic health reform legislation before they take their holiday recess.

In Olympia activists will gather at Sylvester Park, Capitol and Legion downtown, at 12 noon. Other rallies will be held on the same day in Bellingham, Bremerton, Everett, Seattle, Spokane, Tacoma, Vancouver and Yakima.

Attendees are asked to bring two greeting cards with their personal healthcare story written in each card.  Cards will be deposited into large gift boxes and delivered to Senators Murray and Cantwell with the wish that Americans get Healthcare Reform by the Holidays.

Donations of cleaning and personal hygiene items will also be collected for the YWCA’s

Other Bank. Hotel sized soaps and shampoos are especially welcome.

The rallies are designed to shore up Senate support in an effort to pass reform that will help solve the challenges people face from rising health care costs and a lack of adequate health insurance – from families that incur budget-breaking debt because of limited health care coverage to the uninsured who go without needed medication.

The statewide action has been organized by Health Care for America NOW! and the Healthy Washington Coalition. These two organizations are comprised of hundreds of groups representing small businesses, labor unions, health care providers, and community organizations from across the state who are working to secure quality affordable health care.

Speakers will include Rep. Brendan Williams and Rabbi Seth Goldstein. Stewart Henderson will serve as the M.C.
