Resolution in Support of the Congressional Accompaniment Program

Whereas the 2008 Congressional Accompaniment Program is a non-partisan fact-finding tour to Israel/Palestine funded by donations from constituents and other citizens, and;

Whereas the tour is tentatively scheduled for the spring recess of Congress in 2008, and;

Whereas, this educational tour will help elected officials make informed decisions regarding  the Israel/Palestine region, and;

Whereas the tour is for the elected officials and/or their staff members, along with interested constituents funding their own trips, and;

Whereas the founding organizations have researched the Congressional rules governing travel reimbursements and are confident that the CAP trip is in full compliance (CAP is not a registered lobby and has no paid staff);

Therefore be it resolved that the Thurston County Democratic Central Committee endorses the CAP project and encourages our elected representatives to take the 2008 tour or allow a member of their senior staff to do so.

A copy of this resolution shall be forwarded to the Rachel Corrie Foundation for inclusion in their packet of additional information that will be sent to Senators Murray and Cantwell and Representatives Baird and Smith.

Strongly Supportive of the CAP Resolution

I strongly support and encourage our congressional representatives to travel to Israel and Palestine through the Congressional Accompaniment Program Tour. The leader of the project is a well respected Reverend and, after studying the tour itenerary, I feel it would present many voices from all parts of the conflict, providing our representatives with tools to help reach a tangible solution to the problem. Listening to all involved is not Anti-Israel or Anti-Palestine, it is Pro-justice, Pro-peace, and most importantly, the only way to reach a lasting solution.

Education is a good thing

I don't know why we wouldn't want our representatives to learn all they can about ANY topic. This issue is vitally important to the stability of the Middle East region so it seems to make sense that, as our representatives, we should request they get educated on the subject. Ignorance breeds fear. There are real people on both sides of this issue who are suffering.

Let's get educated!

Here's an article I found interesting at the BBC that describes how the International Red Cross no longer thinks humanitarian aid will help in Palestine but is calling for political action to solve the problem. The full article can be found here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/7141875.stm

CAP

The Raschel Corrie Foundation appears to be a thinly vailed anti-Isreali, anti-Jewish organization that is interested only in the Palestinian point of view.

The proof is in the act of suing Catipillar to stop them from selling tractors for construction. It reinforces the non-sensical and Quixotesque approach to settling a very complex and deadly issue.

Now they are promoting a CAP program that is aimed at supporting a home and protection for Palestinian terrorist that will inevitably raid into Isreal and murder innocent people.

I don't believe the Thurston County Denmocrats are gullible enogh to fall for this "peace" facid that is so obviously anti-Isreali.
